Hello fellow health bingers

Welcome to the location on which I will disperse all of my knowledge, trials, tribulations, successes, failures, opinions, and advice for all things I encounter related to being healthy. Topics will include anything and everything I have come across and am currently dealing with in my own journey to healthy living.

In this blog, I won't tell you what to do and not do (okay--advice will surely make its appearance regularly); I'll tell you what works and doesn't work for me. (And whether I think something is a load of crap or not--probably based on science because I'm kind of a dork.)

Now I shall brainwash you into believing why you should trust me:

Everything I say is 100% fact. True Story. (Okay, so what if that is something Barney Stinson would say. Let's not lie, we all love him and secretly want to be like him.) In reality though, I won't say or suggest anything without trying it first or at least rationalizing through it using science. Also (this might come as a shock), I am a normal person. I'm not one of those freakishly thin, 20-pack-abs-after-one-situp type of people. (I love you guys anyway--even though I'm extremely jealous of you--jerks.) I have to work hard, not to get abs because that will never happen, but to maintain a healthy body weight and muscle tone. Like the unverified 99% of America, I have to deny myself certain pleasures and indulgences because my body multiplies calories, fat, and carbohydrates by 3 every time I eat.

Some other things to convince you I am an expert:
  • I'm a mid-20s professional working in the health field
  • I was pre-med in college and have a Masters in Public Health
  • I was raised by a Nurse Practitioner who used to drag me to work with her and force her unlimited amount of knowledge on me.
  • I have genetics fighting against me. I'll talk about this more in a minute.
  • I understand big, scientific words; and if I don't, google is my best friend and tells me everything.
  • I've tried many, many, many different methods to stay healthy--both exercise and diet related--so I've got loads of experience with this junk.

Now to the "I have genetics fighting against me" thing. Don't get me wrong, I'm very lucky in the health department compared to most of the world. In other words, I don't have any debilitating diseases. My goal is to keep it that way, and unfortunately, my family history haunts my future.  Type II Diabetes is my main concern. Almost everyone in my family suffers from this disease, most of which developed it due to a high body weight. THIS is what I mean when I say genetics is against me, and THIS is why I'm so health-driven.

With all of that said, I hope that you can trust that I am a not-so-expert expert on healthy living. I've failed numerous times, and succeeded numerous times. Here's to hoping this is one of my successes!
